Fern Margaret Palmer, 89 of Springfield, Missouri died, Wednesday morning on August 10, 2011. Thoughtful and loving care was provided by James River Care Center up to the time of her passing. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 12:30 pm at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home and burial will be at approximately 3:30 pm the same day in the Ozark Memorial Garden in Rolla, Missouri. Pastor Daniel Chisholm will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Friday August 12 in the Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Survivors include three sisters; Dorothy Martin of Warrenton Mo, Naomi Eads of Independence Mo, Eileen Alverson of Liberty Mo and her two children, Margaret Rainey of Springfield Mo and Donald Palmer of Denver Co. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, John Baur and one sister, Mildred Steimke. Fern was born December 12, 1921, in Union, Missouri to Rev. Edwin and Mamie Baur. On July 29, 1942 she married Paul Roy Palmer in Dixon, Missouri. She was a wonderful wife, loving mother, and grandmother. She moved to Springfield in 1996 from Rolla, Missouri after the death of her husband. Fern was a member of the University Heights Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri. Fern was a co-owner with her husband in a small dry cleaning business in Dixon, worked for a time as a school administrator, and later as a civil service worker at Ft. Leonard Wood military base when she retired. Fern learned to oil paint late in life and produced many paintings, loved to laugh and was known for her sense of humor. She loved to sew and enjoyed cooking and canning the produce from Paul's garden. Memorial contributions may be made to Seasons Hospice.
