Obituary

Evelyn Ruth Butts, 89 of Springfield, Missouri passed away at 7:32 am Thursday, March 12, 2015. She was born May 14, 1925 to Hugh and Mable Day in Marshfield, Missouri. Evelyn was smart with a great sense of humor and a very positive outlook on life. She was also very strong and a breast cancer survivor. Evelyn received a Bachelor of Science in Education on July 27,1950, her teaching career started in a one room school house, eventually teaching physical education at Central High School. She was united in marriage with Robert D. Butts on May 20, 1949. Evelyn was a loving wife to Bob and loving mother to son, Steve. She was a member of King's Way United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents and loving husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Geneva and husband, Elmer Young; two brothers, Kenneth and wife, Lura and James and wife, Novita; sister-in-law, Jane Butts, and brother-in-law, Bill Butts, Sr. She is survived by her loving son, Stephen Butts of Ozark; sister-in-law, Rosa Lee Butts and many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at 1:00 pm in King's Way United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jon Spalding officiating. Burial will follow in St. Luke Cemetery, Conway, Missouri. Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 pm in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Southwest Missouri Office of Aging, 1735 S. Fort Avenue, Springfield, Missouri 65807.
