Evangeline Cecilia Hixson (nee Booth)
was born on January 18, 1925 and passed away November 10, 2014
in Springfield, Missouri. Evangeline was known universally to family and friends and anyone lucky enough to meet her as "Vangie"began her journey into the great mystery beyond on Monday, November 10, 2014. Vangie worked for TWA from 1954 to 1978 in Los Angeles, California, and was an enthusiastic world traveler, but this journey was not as enthusiastically embarked upon as some of the other trips she took in her prime. She loved her life and delayed her departure from this dimension as long as humanly possible. She loved Rick, her husband and best friend of 44 years. She loved her sons, Jim and Franklin (children from her first marriage to James Cameron); and she loved her granddaughter, Christina, Jim's daughter, with a deep, loyal kind of love that could border on fierceness sometimes. She loved to sing. She sang with a band for awhile in the 1960s, and was an avid bass in the Delrose chapter of "Sweet Adelines" when she lived in Montrose, Colorado, and the "Ozark Showcase" of Springfield, Missouri; even tap dancing in one of their performances, limber and trim and well into her seventh decade by then. She loved to laugh and was known by those who knew her well as a wit, and admired that ability in others as well. She loved perfumes and when she worked for the airlines and could fly for free she would go to Paris, or send her son Franklin specifically to discover new scents with which to anoint herself. She loved her body and was committed to taking care of it. She used to say, "You got to take care of what you got." Perhaps because of that she kept the beauty nature had bestowed on her long after others of her generation had gracefully surrendered theirs. Vangie was a faithful Christian and loved her Catholic Church. She loved her brother, Buddy Booth; her mother and father, Ida and William Booth; her grandfather Joseph Dennison and her Aunt Geneva Dennisonall of whom were hopefully waiting for her when she completed her journey to the other side. In the meantime, we're going to be keeping a light on for her here. Bon voyage, Vangie. Godspeed. Memorial donations may be made to the hospice organization of the donor's choice. Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m., Monday in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
