Esther Agnes Almond, age 82, was called home to be with our Lord on July 6, 2026, after living a faith filled life and courageously battling Alzheimer’s disease. Esther was born in Garnett, Kansas, on November 8, 1943, to Anna and Lee Lickteig. She grew up on the family farm in Greeley, where she learned early in life the true meaning of a hard day’s work.

Esther was the second oldest of seven children. She graduated from Greeley High School in 1961 and later moved to Kansas City. She married the love of her life, Donald Almond, on May 9, 1964. Together they shared 62 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on faith, family, and love.

They raised two daughters, Sherye and Shonya, welcomed two son-in-laws, Deron and Doug and were blessed with four grandsons, including Taylor and wife Mackenzie, Zach and wife Corinna, Alex and Andrew, as well as three great-grandsons James, Elijah and Christian.

Esther was a strong Christian woman who truly embraced her Catholic faith. Throughout her life, she enjoyed volunteering, singing in the church choir, serving as a lector, and leading Sunday rosaries. Her deep love for God was evident in both her words and her actions.

Esther was a very talented and gifted woman. She enjoyed oil painting, knitting, crocheting, sewing, and creating beautiful jewelry. She could also bake desserts like no other. Esther was an avid sports fan and loved cheering on her grandkids at their sporting events and following college and professional sports with her family. Esther worked in banking for 25 years, and she always found joy in her hobbies, her home, and most of all, her family.

Esther was known for her beautiful smile, her love of music and love of God. She was also known for the phrase, “Bless your heart,” a saying that reflected her warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit.

Esther is survived by her husband Don, children, grandchildren, her siblings Dave (wife Carolyn), Mark (wife Pam), Pete, and Ben. She was preceded in death by her brother Tim, sister Maxine, sister-in-laws Beverly and Anita, as well as her parents.

Esther will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. We take comfort in knowing that she now rests in the loving arms of our Savior. May perpetual light shine upon her and may she rest in eternal peace.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 10, 2026, from 9:00 am - 9:30 am at Our Lady of the Cove in Kimberling City, MO, followed by a Rosary at 9:30 am. Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 am, Friday, July 10, 2026, in the church.
