Erik William Harms, 33, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2020 at his home in Springfield, MO. He was born March 16, 1987, the son of John B. and Katherine G. Harms. He attended Springfield public schools and graduated from Glendale High School in 2005. He went on to the University of Kansas and received his BS in Business with a concentration in International Business in 2009. He received his Masters of Science in Accounting in 2010. He was a Chartered Financial Analyst Level 3 Candidate.

Erik began his career in Finance at Greystone Investment Advisors in Springfield, MO. He went on to work for William Blair & Company, Chicago, IL first as a Data Analyst and then as a Portfolio Administrator for Private Client Advisers. In 2016 he began working for Travelers Insurance Company as an Underwriter-Commercial Surety, Bond and Specialty Insurance.

He returned to Springfield in 2019. His dream was to open a restaurant and become a chef as food and cooking were two of his special passions. His other passions were KU Jayhawk basketball, American football, his dog Bronson and music, reading, travel and movies.

Erik will be remembered as someone who loved everyone he met fiercely. His open heart and compassion made everyone he met an instant friend. His contagious laugh and warm bear hugs will be sorely missed.

Erik was preceded in death by his grandparents: Bill and Nancy Harms and Edward and Clerc Galloway and his aunt Susan Galloway. Survivors include his parents, John and Katherine Harms, his uncles Mark Harms and his wife Tammy Corrigan; Ned Galloway and his wife Debbie; his aunt, Susan Harms and her partner, Dan Ellman; his cousins Curt Harms, Nick Galloway and his wife Wendy, Brian Galloway and his wife Molly, and Angela Tarcon and her husband James.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 8, 2021 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. The service will be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/alloccasionvideo/?ref=page_internal . Graveside Service will follow at Maple Park Cemetery.
