Emily Wilcox Allan of Springfield passed away Saturday, February 6, at 5 p.m., in St. Johns Regional Health Center, following complication from surgery. Emily was born in Bolivar, Mo., July 15, 1934 to Thomas M. Shoffner Sr. and Ruth Wilcox Shoffner. She was a member of the graduating class of Central High and loved her classmates, always attending their monthly luncheons, trips shopping and to the casinos. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, John W. Allan February 5, 1961. Emily and John were owners of Allan Medical Inc., Allan Rents and many other business ventures. She was a talented and an accomplished artist under the instruction of Riki Lipe where she enjoyed the wonderful and fun group of "Palett Pals." Another hobby she enjoyed and will be remembered for, is the beautiful hand-made Santas which she gave to her family and friends. She loved floral and herb gardening and was an exceptional gourmet cook and took pride in entertaining her friends and family. The many vacations with her sisters, Bette Gilbert and Mary Jean Wilson were always a high-light of her life, traveling to Europe, New York and many other places of interest. Emily was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Allan; her parents, Thomas M. Shoffner Sr. and Ruth Wilcox Shoffner; and son-in-law, Paul Anstutz. She is survived by her children, Julie McCann and husband Ed and Amy Allan, all of Springfield; two step-daughters, Kathryn Allan Olmstead and husband Jim of Tallahassee, Fla., and Elizabeth Hawn and husband Bob of Sandpoint, Idaho; grandchildren, Jessica Brothers and husband Cabot of Springfield, Addie Sherman and husband Jeremy of Kansas City, Mo., and Casey McCann of Springfield, Mo.; step-grandchildren, James Allan and Olivia Elizabeth Olmstead of Tallahassee, Fla. Survivors also include a sister, Bette Gilbert and husband Tommy of Nixa, Mo.; a brother, Tom Shoffner Jr. and wife Mary Lou of Springfield; and a sister, Mary Jean Wilson of Springfield as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, countless treasured friends, her wonderful neighbors, her dear friends Kathy Jennings and Charlie and Carol Gard who were always there in time of need and a very special friend Libba Shirley and also Emily's beloved pet Dog "Scooter."Emily was a forty year member of St. James Episcopal Church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2010 in the funeral home. The funeral service will be held in St. James Episcopal Church, 2645 E. Southern Hills Blvd. Thursday, February 11, 2010 with Rev. Ross Stuckey officiating. Interment will follow in Hazelwood Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James Episcopal Church or St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund.
