Emanuel Smith, "Manny," passed away January 29, 2015. Manny was born in St. Louis, Missouri on May 22, 1930, born to Harry and Ella Smith. Manny was a past member of the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine, Director Staff, Scottish Rite, Purchashing Agents, Temple Israel Congregation and served in the Korean War from 1951-1954. He graduated from the University of Misssouri-Columbia with a Bachelor of Business degree. Manny Smith was kind and generous, the epitome of a gentleman. His family and business was his life. Manny was married to the love of his life, "Deanie" for 58 years this February. He adored and was so proud of his two children. He had many long-time friends in Springfield and from out of town Manny is survived by his wife, Nadine Arbeitman Smith, son, Neil Alan Smith, daughter, Natalie Ann Smith, daughter-in-law, Judy Smith, grandsons, Brandon Smith and Justin Smith, brother, Harlan Smith and three nephews, Nick, Chris and Nathan Arbeitman, and his beloved dog, Bella. Manny was preceded in death by his in-laws, Fannie and Ben J. Arbeitman, whom he adored. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 3 at the Temple Israel Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, officiated by a cousin, Cantor Nathan Lam, of Los Angeles, CA.
