Elsie Marie Posey Smith, born May 5, 1935 to Charles M. Posey and Rose Marie Saddler Posey in Springfield, MO, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucian D. "Sonny" Smith. During her life, Elsie worked at Lily-Tulip Cup Corp., Barth's clothing store, and sold Tupperware, Avon, Stanley products and Artex paints. She capped a 26-year career with Reyco Industries as one of the first female Traffic Managers in the trucking industry. She and Sonny owned several rental properties in Springfield. Elsie volunteered with the Muscular Dystrophy Association for a number of years, helping to establish the first Labor Day Telethons. She and Sonny also had a houseboat at Indian Point Boat Dock for many years, enjoying many good friendships there. Elsie was proud to be a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church and she developed close friendships at Hammons Heart Institute. But Elsie's first and greatest priority was always her family, serving as an immovable rock to help her loved ones weather the storms of life. Elsie is survived by her son Michael Wilson Trantham, daughter Karen Marie Trantham Jones and son-in-law Richard W. Jones, daughter of a second marriage Cathy Ann Schlichting and son-in-law Steve Schlichting, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Elsie is also survived by her sister Sandy and two brothers, Jim and John, as well as one uncle and one aunt, four nieces, three nephews, and numerous other relatives. The family would like to thank Mercy physicians and staff, Oxford Home Health, and especially Oxford Hospice for truly exceptional care. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 10:00 am in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel with burial to follow in Palmetto Cemetery, Rogersville. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 Pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Oxford Hospice Foundation in the name of the deceased.
