Elsie K. Miller age 91 passed peacefully Saturday September 26, 2015 at home with close family and friends at her side. Elsie was born on September 27, 1923 in Hamburg, Germany to Hermann and Martha Kiel. Preceding Elsie in death was her husband of 31 years, Jerry Miller. Also preceding Elsie were her sons, Paul Miller and Glenn Miller; her daughters, Mary Helen Stockfish and Peggy Smith; and brother, Art Kiel. Elsie is survived by her sister, Marie Dawe and daughter, Barb Nauta. Elsie leaves behind many close friends, grandchildren, and extended family that were very special to her. Elsie emigrated as a newborn from Germany in 1923 and met up with extended family in Skokie, IL where they settled for many years. Tired of the cold winters in the Chicago area they moved to Cabool, MO where they set up a family farm. Elsie eventually finished raising her family in Springfield, MO. Elsie's pride accomplishment was obtaining her pilot's license. Elsie would proudly fly her Piper Club airplane during her free time. She logged many hours in a plane and was a member of a flying club with several other girlfriends. Elsie also loved to fish, knit, and even took a bicycle trip in New England with ten of her close girlfriends. Elsie was adventurous, free spirited and lived life to the fullest. Elsie had a true love for God and was an active member at Redeemer Lutheran Church. She had a wonderful church family and was active in many of the church functions. Elsie followed the Lord and helped others find the Lord in their time of need. We will celebrate Elsie's life with services Friday October 2, 2015 at 2:00pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with burial to follow at Hazelwood Cemetery.
