Ella "Mille" Louise Snell Ella Louise (Millemon) Snell, age 92 Springfield, passed away at 9:12 PM Monday, November 29, 2010 at her home with her son and daughter-in-law present. She was a native of Mercer, MO born on July 29, 1918, the daughter of George Ray Millemon and Louisa Gloshen Millemon. Ella graduated from Mercer High School in 1935. She taught at a country school for one year before attending nursing school at Laughlin Hospital in Kirksville, MO. Upon graduation, Ella began her nursing career working at St. Louis Children's Hospital. Shortly thereafter she became a stewardess for American Airlines. This was at the time when a stewardess had to be an RN. On September 28, 1942 Ella married Dr. Malcolm Elliott Snell in Dallas, TX. They had one son, Malcolm Sherwood Snell, born September 7, 1944. Ella worked in her husband's medical office, first in Dallas and then in Springfield after the family moved to Missouri in 1964. They retired in 1994 after 30 years of medical practice in Springfield. Ella was preceded in death by her parents; Malcolm, her loving husband of 60 years; two brothers, Fred and George Millemon; a niece, Mary Jane Millemon Merrill and the wife of her nephew John Millemon, Celia Riddle Millemon. She is survived by her son, Dr. Malcolm S. Snell (wife, Janet), Fishers, IN; three grandsons and two great-grandchildren, Dr. Brian E. Snell (wife Elena, great granddaughter Olivia), Oklahoma City, OK; Scott M. Snell, Indianapolis, IN; Michael J. Snell (wife Darcy, great grandson Isaac), Indianapolis, IN; and a granddaughter Victoria A. Snell, New Orleans, LA; two sisters, Mary Aslanides, Overland Park, KS and Ruth Ross, Houston, TX; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Ella's life will be held at 1 PM Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Gorman- Scharpf Funeral Home, University Chapel. Visitation will be from 12 PM until 1 PM Saturday. Entombment at Rivermonte Memorial Mausoleum will be private.
