Elizabeth Ann Stonestreet's Obituary

Elizabeth Ann Stonestreet, a fourth generation member of the Sheppard family in the Springfield area, died on August 23, 2010, at the age of 90. Preceding her in death were her parents, Joseph Dow and Eleanor Vaughan Sheppard, her brother, Joseph Dow Sheppard II, and her husband John (Jack) Clark Stonestreet. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Eleanor Stonestreet and Jean Ann Carver, her husband Thomas Carver, and her grandchildren, Sara Elizabeth Kraushaar, Benjamin Stonestreet Carver, and Patrick Andrew Carver; her sister-in-law, Mary Sheppard, her god daughter, Mary Ann Gilbert Barton , her nieces and nephews, Ann Mitchell Doss and her husband Page, Jay Mitchell and his wife Betty, Patricia Sheppard Bowman and her husband John, Chip Sheppard (Joseph Dow Sheppard, III), and his wife Sylvia; Mrs. Charles Sheppard, and her Westminster church family . She graduated from Drury College where she was president of her sorority, Pi Beta Phi. She served as an elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church, and later became a certified Christian Educator and the Director of Christian Education at Westminster for 26 years. She was past moderator of John Calvin Presbytery, Director of Synod of Mid-America's Summer School, and chairperson of the Presbytery's Christian Education Committee and Resource Center. She was a member of SMMA and the Contemporary Art Group, former President of the Springfield Regional Girl's Shelter Auxiliary, and member of the Board of Directors. She was also a member of the Friends of the Gray/Campbell Farmstead, and her beloved "Wicked Witches". Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, August 25, at 1:00 pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church under the direction of Gorman Scharpf Funeral Home, Rev. Ellen Brantley officiating. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Westminster Presbyterian Church "Christian Education" (1551 E. Portland 65804), The Springfield Regional Girl's Shelter (2740 E. Pythian 65802) and the Gray/Campbell Homestead (% Treasurer, P.O Box 127, Willard, Mo. 65781).
