IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elizabeth "Liz"
Miesner
October 12, 1944 – February 20, 2026
Elizabeth J. Miesner, 81, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on February 20, 2026.
Born on October 12, 1944, in Tacoma, Washington, she was the daughter of Fred and Agatha Winters. Elizabeth was a proud graduate of Nevada High School, Cottey College, and Southwest Missouri State University (SMSU).
Elizabeth devoted her professional life to education. She taught science, physical education, and health in the Springfield Public Schools, serving at Westport Elementary, Pipkin Junior High, Hickory Hills Junior High, and Reed Junior High. In recognition of her dedication and excellence in the classroom, she was honored as Teacher of the Year for Springfield, Missouri. Beyond the classroom, she coached basketball, volleyball, track, and soccer, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stan; her sister, Lily Winters; her brother, Jack Winters; and her step-grandson, Alex Miesner.
She is survived by her son, Christopher King (Colleen); her grandson, Gavin King; her stepsons, Stanley (Martha) and Scott; her former husband, Rex King; her sister, Karen Morgan (Ralph); her step grandchildren, Richard, Ashley, Luis (Missy), Joshua (Emily), and Austin (Ashli); and ten step-great-grandchildren.
Even after retirement, Elizabeth's calling to teach never left her. She continued to mentor educators for the Missouri Department of Education, quietly shaping classrooms she would never see and students she would never meet. Her wisdom, steadiness, and unwavering belief in others became part of a legacy that will continue long beyond her years.
But her greatest work was not confined to a school building. It was found around her own table, in the warmth of her home, and in the steadfast love she poured into her family. Liz lived a life of service- to her students, to her fellow teachers, and most deeply to those she loved. She leaves behind not only memories, but a living legacy of compassion, strength, and devotion that will endure in the hearts of all who knew her.
Those who were taught, coached, mentored, or encouraged by Elizabeth are especially welcome to gather and celebrate the impact of her life. A reception for all will be held following the service, where stories and memories may be shared.
A visitation will be held Saturday, March 7, 2026, at South Gate Baptist Church, in Springfield, Missouri starting at 10:00 AM. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM, with refreshments afterward. There will be a private interment at Missouri Veteran's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks or to South Gate Baptist Church.
