Elias "Al" Nachman, 94, passed away peacefully on 16 February 2018 in Springfield, Mo. Al was born in Omaha, Nebr., on 12 January 1924. He joined the U.S. Army in 1943 and served with the 727th Amphibian Tractor Battalion in the Pacific theater in World War II. He graduated from Creighton University and the University of Nebraska College of Medicine and was an ophthalmologist in private practice for many years. Al was a lifelong reader and learner who amassed knowledge on myriad subjects. He will be remembered as a genuine, kind, and compassionate person who brought comfort to many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Lena (Belzer) Nachman, his sister, Babe Galemba, and his brother, Benjamin Nachman. He is survived by his wife, Doris, and two children, Julie and James. Funeral services were held on Sunday, 18 February. Donations in Al's memory may be made to Temple Israel Foundation, P.O.
