Elberta Delashmitt, 100, passed away on September 21, 2010 in St. John's Mercy Villa. She was born in Edmond, Oklahoma on July 7, 1910. After graduating from business college, Elberta worked for 13 years as a bookkeeper for Carpenter Paper Co. in Oklahoma City during the depression and World War II. She worked for three years as executive secretary for Schweitzer United Methodist Church and Covenant Presbyterian Church in Springfield. She ended her career working part-time as a bookkeeper for 25 years for the American Meat Company in Springfield. Volunteer work was an important part of Elberta's life. She served as a treasurer for UNICEF, delivered meals on wheels for 15 years, and served as a volunteer at several hospitals. As a member of Schweitzer United Methodist Church, she volunteered in many capacities and also served on the Finance Committee. Elberta also enjoyed fishing with friends and playing duplicate bridge and became a silver master bridge player. Elberta was preceded in death by her parents, John and Edith Dahl, and her husband Bob. She is survived by a brother Harley Dahl; her son, Phil and wife Patty; grandson, Joe Rodriguez and wife Denise; granddaughter, Jennifer Erickson and husband Dave; and great grandchildren, Tyler Hansen, Ryan Asbury and Elaina Erickson and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 24, 2010 at 10:00 AM in Schweitzer United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jim Mason officiating under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Burial will follow in Missouri Veterans Cemetery. No formal visitation is planned, however, friends may call in the funeral home after 2:00 PM, Thursday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Schweitzer United Methodist Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
