Dr. Egbert "Bert" Rulloda Borja passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 with his wife Medy, sons Robert and Eric, and close family and friends nearby. Bert was born on September 22, 1940 in San Fernando, La Union, Philippines, to Pedro and Olimpia Borja. Bert graduated from La Union High School in San Fernando, Philippines. He earned undergraduate and Doctorate of Medicine degrees from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines. After furthering his medical training for several years in the United States, he returned to San Fernando. There, he met the love of his life, Remedios "Medy" Martinez and they were married on May 1, 1969. They raised two sons, Robert and Eric. In 1971, they immigrated to the United States where they settled in Springfield and made the Ozarks their home. Bert began his practice of medicine in 1971 and worked as a physician until 2007. He specialized in Internal Medicine and Oncology. He enjoyed gardening and maintained large and extensive vegetable and flower gardens at his home. He also was an avid traveler and he enjoyed exploring the world with Medy and visiting his children and grandchildren in California and Texas. He became a wine aficionado and would seek out new wines during his travels. He attended the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Bert is survived by his wife of 46 years, Remedios Borja; son Robert Borja and daughter-in-law Anna Bryan-Borja with grandchildren Grace and Zachary; son Eric Borja and daughter-in-law Amanda Borja with granddaughter Fely; sister Dr. Paz Salazar; and brothers Dr. Alonzo Borja and Dr. Manuel Borja. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Bert's memory to the charitable organization of your choice. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 10, 2015 from 4 to 6:00 pm at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, with prayer service to follow at 6:00 pm in the funeral home. Memorial Mass will be Friday, May 15, 2015 at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church.
