Edwin R. Giddens, 56, of Springfield unexpectedly passed away at Cox Medical Center South at 1:00 a.m. on December 31, 2012. Ed graduated from Fair Grove High School in 1974; from Arizona Western College, Yuma, Arizona, in 1996; and from Missouri State University in 1999. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1994. Ed was a member of the American Iris Society, Iris Society of the Ozarks, North American Lily Society, Ozark Regional Lily Society, and Friends of the Garden Springfield Botanical Center. He is survived by his wife Susan Sims-Giddens of Springfield, parents Bob and Leta Giddens of Billings, and brothers Ronald Giddens and Michael Giddens. Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, at Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Burial will be private. As a spiritual person, Ed believed in the heavens and earth and loved the stars, theory, nature, learning, and photography. Ed could tell a great story with film and showed his abundant love of and fascination with life through his photographs. His artistic vision created wonderful memories. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Susan Sims-Giddens and Edwin R. Giddens Scholarship Fund, Missouri State University Foundation.
