Edward Eugene McElwee, 92, departed peacefully Jan 11, 2023

He is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; and sisters: Ona, Vida, and Judy.

He is survived by 3 sons: Greg, Steve, Jon; and their families of grand-children and great-grand-children.

He was born in Huron, MO and lived in Polk County as a child. He married Virginia Smolnik in 1952 and shared 50 years with the love of his life. His passion was teaching business-secretarial classes, which he did during the Korean War while stationed in Japan. He then taught high school and drove the bus in Glasgow, MO, until he became a counselor in Vocational Rehab in Springfield and taught at Draughn Business College before his retirement in 1990.

A visitation will be held from 10-11 AM Friday, January 20, 2023, with a memorial Mass starting at 11 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church (2200 W Republic Rd.) Burial will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery Bolivar, MO. Online condolences can be offered at Gorman-Scharpf. Memorial Donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul at the church.
