Edgar Lee Howerd was born in Branson, Missouri, on June 21, 1923. His parents were Alva and Anna Rittenhouse Howard. After graduating from Forsyth High School, he attended Missouri State University. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was retired from Ford Motor Company, where he was a zone manager. He was a Presbyterian and had served as both elder and deacon. He was a member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Solomon Lodge #271. He was formerly a member of the Greene County Republican Central Committee. He enjoyed playing golf and was a longtime member of Greene Hills Country Club in Willard. He had also been a member of the Springfield Seniors Golf Club. He enjoyed being Santa Claus at hospitals and children's wards. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; two sons and their wives, Eddie and Janet, and David and Gwen; one granddaughter, Laurel Calvert; four grandsons, Brandon, Ryan, Will and Zac Howard; and three step-grandchildren, Lane and Chad Bright, and Stacy Boyer. He is also survived by two brothers, Douglas Howard and Dan Howard; 11 great-grandchildren; and a special nephew, Gordon Persinger. Memorial services will be Friday, at 1 p.m., in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, with Dr. Greg Seckman officiating. Burial will follow in Ozark Memorial Park in Branson.
