Earl Lee Kellett, 76, of Springfield, Missouri, died on February 19, 2013 at Magnolia Square nursing home in Springfield, Missouri. Earl was the son of Earl Lewis and Martha Ellen Kellett of West Plains, where he was born. His parents preceded him in death. Earl graduated from West Plains High School in 1954. From 1955 through 1958, he was an announcer at Springfield radio station KICK, while earning a bachelors degree at Drury College. He then attended law school at the University of South Dakota, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the South Dakota Law Review, and graduated cum laude in 1961. After practicing law briefly in South Dakota, he spent the rest of his professional life in law book editing and publishing. From 1964 to 1976, Earl worked as an editor at the Lawyers Co-operative Publishing Company in Rochester, New York, rising to the rank of Managing Editor. He then moved to Boston, where he served as the Senior Editor of the Law Division of Little, Brown and Company. In 1979, he left Little, Brown to move to San Diego, where he established his own law book editing operation, employing several other attorney/editors. Because of ill health, he sold his operation in 1995, and then returned to Springfield in 1997, where he continued to work as a free-lance writer and editor until shortly before his death. Earl was a sports fan and especially enjoyed the Lady Bears Missouri state women's basketball team. He loved jazz and the classics of the Great American Songbook, and was a devoted father and grandfather. Earl is survived by daughters Jean Kellett of Ossining, NY and Brandie Walker and her husband, Gary, of Rochester, NY; a granddaughter Emma Cheshire and a sister Peggy Briscoe of Sparta, Tennessee; five nieces and their families, and several cousins. Visitation will begin at 2:00pm and services at 3:00pm followed by a small reception on Saturday March 2nd, 2013 at the Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield, Missouri.
