Dr. Patrick A.
McShane
July 22, 1953 – March 31, 2026
Patrick A. McShane, DPM
Patrick A. McShane, age 72, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully at 11:15 p.m. on March 31, 2026. He lived a life defined by dedication to his profession, service to others, and a tireless commitment to advancing medical care for patients and physicians across Missouri and beyond.
Dr. McShane began his academic journey earning both a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis in Chemistry. He later pursued his calling in medicine, graduating from the Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in 1991. Following graduation, he established a private podiatric practice that served communities throughout Springfield, Bolivar, West Plains, and Mountain View for more than 33 years. Through his work, he cared for thousands of patients, building a reputation for skill, compassion, and unwavering dedication to improving the health and mobility of those he served.
Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. McShane held numerous leadership roles within the profession. He served as President of the Missouri Podiatric Medical Association, where he organized and led statewide medical meetings and consulted with podiatrists across Missouri. After his tenure as president, he continued his service as a delegate for the State of Missouri, working alongside state leaders, including Governor Mel Carnahan, to help pass legislation that advanced medical care and strengthened the practice of podiatry within the state. His influence extended to the national level, where he spent time in Washington, D.C., advocating for doctors and patients and contributing to the development of laws that promoted progress in healthcare.
Dr. McShane was also deeply committed to advancing medical knowledge. He conducted extensive research on sinus tarsi syndrome and published a professional paper on the condition, earning recognition as an expert in his field. His work reflected a lifelong pursuit of learning and a desire to leave the medical community stronger for future generations.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Patrick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He found great joy in the simple, meaningful moments of life. He loved spending time in his garden, tending to his plants and watching things grow under his care. He especially enjoyed sharing his plants with family, friends, and neighbors, taking pride in giving others something he had nurtured himself. He was also a gifted woodworker who took pride in creating beautiful, lasting pieces with his hands. His favorite wood to work with was walnut, a material he appreciated for its strength, character, and timeless beauty—qualities that reflected his own steady and enduring nature.
Patrick was known for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. He was always ready with a one-liner that could bring laughter to any room, and his sharp mind and playful spirit will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, David H. McShane; his mother, Lucy M. McShane; and his sister, Rebecca Jill Chafin.
He is survived by his loving wife, Darlene (Dee) McShane; his daughters, Misty (JW) and Annie (Jacky); his son, Thomas; his siblings, Linda Kelly, Dava McShane, Jo Karen Adams (Rick), David McShane, Jack McShane, and Earl McShane; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He is also survived by his beloved grandson, Garry Patrick DeLong, who brought him immense pride and joy.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, with funeral services to immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place in Conway, Missouri.
