Douglas Stanford Miller passed away on February 23, 2014, at his home in Republic. Doug was born on January 1, 1947, in Springfield, Missouri, the eldest son of Robert C. Miller and Velma Jeanne Mobley Miller. Health and nutrition were Doug's lifelong passion. He owned and operated the Spring Valley Health Food Store in Springfield during the 1970s and early 1980s. Doug was a 1964 graduate of Parkview High School and later earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Community Nutrition from Missouri State University. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dennis Hayward Miller and his stepson, Michael Douglas. Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Toni Jean Donham-Miller; his sister, Bobbi Ruhlander and husband Bill of McKinney, Texas; nephew, Alex Miller and wife Kimberly of Norman, Oklahoma, and their three children, Kylie, Katelyn, and Kristine; stepdaughter, Michelle Joyce and husband Doug of Punta Gorda, Florida; step-grandson, Justin McCool and wife Yuko of Boston, Massachusetts; step-grandsons, Josh McCool and Dillon Forsberg; step-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Forsberg, all of Punta Gorda, Florida; and step-great-granddaughter, Madison McCool, also of Punta Gorda. Doug will also be greatly missed by his very best buddy, Katie, the Maine coon cat. Visitation will be held from 1:30pm to 2pm on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield, with services at 2pm in the funeral home. The burial will follow at Hazelwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church in Republic or to Fair Haven Children's Home in Strafford.
