Douglas A. Huewe, M.D. died October 12, 2012 at home surrounded by his family after a long struggle with prostate cancer. Doug was born to Albert and Marjorie Huewe in a farmhouse near Trent, South Dakota on May 26th, 1935. Doug graduated from St. Mary's Academy High School, Dell Rapids, South Dakota in 1953. He entered South Dakota State University and graduated with a pharmacy degree. He worked as a pharmacist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force Academy Service Corps as a pharmaceutical and medical supply officer. He was stationed at Continental Air Command (ConAc) in Long Beach, CA. His final rank after service and discharge was Captain. He entered Marquette School of Medicine and graduated in 1965 with honors. Doug practiced dermatology in Springfield for many years. Doug had a deep faith and shared his gifts. He was a co-founder of the National Southwest Missouri Head Injury Foundation. He was an avid reader, gifted researcher and had a life-long passion for learning. He enjoyed traveling with his family and playing tennis. Preceding Doug in death were his parents. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Alice Therese; a brother, Dwaine (Judy) and seven children: Douglas Jr., Catherine (Sven), Rebecca, Joseph, MaryAnn (Robert), Therese (John) and Patrick (Heather). He had ten grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 17th, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Gorman Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole, Springfield, MO. The funeral mass is Thursday, October 18th, 2012 at 10:00am at Immaculate Conception Church, 3555 S. Fremont Ave, Springfield, MO. A private burial service will follow at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery by Lake Springfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be make to the Prostate Cancer Foundation or www.pcf.org.
