Dorothy Jane (Anderson) Sweaney, 90, of Springfield, MO, passed away on Tuesday, May 10th, 2022.  She was sweet, loving, generous, funny, silly, and stubborn as a mule.  Mom always had a smile, loved to laugh, and had one of the most positive attitudes imaginable - "life is good!"  She was the best mom/mother-in-law/grandma/great-grandma, and we all knew that she loved us dearly.  She was a friend to many and enjoyed her lunches with various friend groups for many years.

Dorothy was born on January 28th, 1932 in Springfield, MO, to Thomas and Edith Anderson.  She was married to her high school sweetheart, Jerry Sweaney, for nearly 67 years before his passing in 2020.

Dorothy graduated from Southwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State).   After a stint as a high school English teacher, she fed her passion for reading as a manager at Heritage Bookstores for nearly two decades.  She was active at Kings Way and then First and Calvary for many years.

Dorothy is survived by her children Susan Rich and John Sweaney (Christi); her grandchildren Jennifer Elliott (Matt), Dustin Rich (Ali), Hannah Stout (Malachi), and Zoe Sweaney; and her great-grandchildren Luke Rich, Dillon Rich, Ethan Phillips, Cooper Elliott, and Hunter Elliott.  We loved mom greatly and will miss her dearly, and we are thankful that she is now laughing and smiling with Dad, her siblings, and her parents.

A visitation and celebration of life service will be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield, MO, Friday, May 20th - visitation at 10:00 AM, service at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Ozarks Food Harvest or your favorite charity.
