Obituary

Dorothy Ruth Adkins (nee Unger) Age 85, died March 13, 2009 in St. Louis, MO after a short illness. She was the daughter of the late John and Lulu Unger. Born in Cabool and reared in Elk Creek Missouri, she worked at the Pentagon on the Manhattan Project during the last year of World War II. After the war she moved to Springfield, MO where she married the late Raymond E. (Buck) Adkins on October 10, 1947. They were married 54 years until his death in 2001. She worked in a variety of legal secretarial positions during her career retiring as Court Clerk from the Missouri State Circuit Court in 1987. She was a long time member and Deacon Emeritus of National Avenue Christian Church. An accomplished piano player, she played for her own enjoyment and others for over 80 years. She enjoyed traveling with her late husband, collecting antiques, and eating lunch with "the girls". She was a loving wife, mother, and friend to all and will be deeply missed. Survivors are her two children, Gene (Sara) Adkins of Springfield and Mary (John) Fisher of St. Louis; three grandchildren, Sam Adkins, Peter (Jenie) Adkins and Rachel Fisher and one great granddaughter, Ella Adkins, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2009, in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel with interment in Hazelwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions to a charity of your choice.
