Dorothy Mae Rook, age 86, passed away June 21, 2011 in Magnolia Square after a long illness. She was born in Sitka, Arkansas, September 12, 1924 and was raised in the area with her two sisters. She was the middle daughter of Earl and Rena Sanders. After high school, Dorothy moved to Springfield and graduated from Draughon's Business College. She worked for the Frisco Railroad where she met her husband, Harold Rook. They moved to Kansas City where they raised their three children, but returned to Springfield in 1963. Dorothy was a homemaker until her children were older. She later worked as a bookkeeper on The Plaza in Kansas City, for Doctors Thomason and Vincel at Medical Village in Springfield and for many years at Selsor Lumber Company. She had many interests including gardening, sewing and traveling. She was a member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church, Cox Auxiliary, Friends of the Zoo, Show-Me-Walkers and the Women's Railroad Retirement. She is survived by her children: Cindy Walls of Dallas, Texas, Ann Pippin of Springfield, and Tom Rook of Paducah, Kentucky. She is also survived by six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her two sisters, Earlene Spurlock of Lemoore, California and Jeffe Ross of Hanford, California; and five nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Hazelwood Cemetery with Reverend Greg Ellis officiating. No visitation is scheduled; however friends may call after 1 p.m. on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Ronald McDonald House, 949 E.
