Dorothy Russell Rollen, 91, Springfield, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, March 18, 2010. She was born May 19, 1918 in Ironton, Missouri, the daughter of Alfred Giles and Flavia Caroline Olive Russell. She was united in marriage to James Leon Rollen on July 2, 1938. Dorothy spent over 23 years working for the Sears Corporation. She was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church for over 55 years having served on many committees. She was also involved with the Sweet Adelines and later in life enjoyed spending time with her Air Stream camping group. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James and her siblings. Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Moss, and her children, Commander Robert Moss and wife, Chika, and Wendy Rollen Burke and husband, Shaune; a daughter, Virginia Rollen-Godsoe and husband, Gene Keyser, and her children, Amy Godsoe and husband, Kevin Zito, and Susan Godsoe-Zimmerling and husband, Tony; a son, James Leon Rollen, Jr. and wife, Esther, and their children, Rebecca Rollen-Dryer and husband, Joe, and Matthew Rollen; and four great-grandchildren, Brendan Gandal-Moss, Sara Zimmerling, Corie Zimmerling and Caroline Dryer. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Culpepper East for the wonderful care Dorothy received while there. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. noon on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with Reverend Carol Ann Chilton officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
