Dorothy Elisabeth "Dottie" Mott, 91, of Springfield, passed away Monday, March 11, 2013. She was born January 30, 1922, the third of eight children born to John H. and Leondina (Gall) Orth in Lesterville, South Dakota. "Dottie", as she preferred to be called in later years, moved from Kansas City, MO to Springfield in 1975 to be closer to her family. She retired from Consumer's Market at the corner of Glenstone and Bennett in 1984. There she made many friends that were customers. "Dottie" loved life and was known for her smile, "spunk" and positive attitude. She knew how to have a good time. Her retirement years were filled with fun and adventure. She met and enjoyed the company of a special friend, Jim Blackman. They both enjoyed dancing and traveling. Together they attended many area Senior Dances. Their favorite dance locations included the Southside Senior Citizens Center, Nixa Senior Center and the Lebanon Senior Center, just to name a few. They met a lot of people at those dances and made many friends. After Jim's passing, in 2003, "Dottie" continued to attend dances until her health would not permit. It was one of her passions. She loved to travel. The mountains were her favorite. She and Jim took numerous trips to see the country. She was a regular at the Meyer Fitness Center Pool where she enjoyed the company of the "regulars". The family would like to thank Dr. William Moore of Ferrell-Duncan Clinic, for his endless support, Judy Von Haden and Delores Cook for their kindness in her final days. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Marty Hornbuckle, Springfield; grandsons Craig Hornbuckle, Columbia and Grant Hornbuckle, Springfield; and a great-granddaughter, Emalye Hornbuckle, Kansas City. Other survivors include sisters Ruth Maynard and husband John, Ft. Myers, FL, and Eleanor Garver, Melbourne, FL; brothers Phil Orth and wife Jan, Sioux City, IA and John Orth and wife Rosalie, Jupiter, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Emil and Reuben Orth and sister Leona Claymore. A private, family burial ceremony, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel, will be held at Maple Park Cemetery.
