Dorothy loved to sing and play the piano, and for many years she enjoyed serving as the pianist for Little Niangua Missionary Baptist Church. Dorothy remarried in the early 1980s to Richard Smith, and they continued to reside in the Bolivar, MO area until his passing in the late 1980s. She relocated to Springfield, MO seven years ago, where she enjoyed living at the Lancelot Apartments and playing dominoes with her friends. She was most proud and happy when she was spending time with her three great-granddaughters, whom she called the joy of her life.'
