Dorothy Matulunas, 95, Springfield, passed away Friday, March 20, 2026 in Springfield Rehab and Healthcare. She was born April 10, 1930 in Aurora, Missouri, the daughter of Leo H. and Anna M. (Buehler) Pachlhofer.
She graduated from Aurora High School in 1948 and after working a few years in Aurora moved to Springfield, MO. She graduated from Draughon Business College with knowledge of office procedures and worked as a secretary for Trailmobile until they moved out of the city. Most of her later employment was in public relations at Zenith.
On February 9, 1974, she married Joseph Matulunas from Waterbury, CT and moved to Theodosia, MO on Bull Shoals Lake. They spent many years landscaping their property. They also enjoyed fishing on the lake and floating small streams in a canoe with friends.
Joseph passed away in May 1993 and she moved back to Springfield and volunteered for the Red Cross, Cox Hospital and later or many years at Mercy in the senior's office.
She loved to dance and was a charter member from 1996 of USABDA (later changed to USA Dance, Inc). She also had many enjoyable years with the Springfield Hospitality Club.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and was active in the Women's CCW, helping with their many charitable projects.
She is survived by her nephew, Paul Pachlhofer and his mother, Mary Margaret.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her only sister, Helen Louise Smith; her brother, Joseph Pachlhofer; and many cousins, aunts and uncles.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2026 in Springfield National Cemetery. This would have been her 96th birthday.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy's name may be made to Season's Hospice.
