Obituary

Dorothy Louise Brooks Magee passed away on February 3, 2009 at the home of her daughter in Springfield, Missouri. She had been ill for over a year. Mrs. Magee was born April 20, 1924 in Kellerton, Iowa, to the late Hallie H. Brooks and Gladys (Hailey) Brooks. Louise graduated from Benton High School in St. Joseph, MO. She attended college and graduated with a BA Degree from Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois in 1968. She earned her permanent teacher's certificate in English, Drama, History, Social Studies, and Remedial Reading. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Keith Magee, Sr. She and Mr. Magee, who was with the U.S. State Department, lived in Dakar Senegal, Africa during the years of 1970-1980. During that time she was President of the Dakar Women's Club, members of which included the wives of Ambassadors of countries from all over the world. While Louise and Keith lived in Bethany, MO Louise was invited to join the Daughters of American Revolution (DAR) organization, Beta Sigma Phi. Also, while in Bethany, Louise was very active in the Bethany Christian Church and was president of the C.W.F. They left Bethany and returned to Springfield to be close to family in 1996. Louise was a member of South Street Christian Church in Springfield. She is survived by four brothers, Warren P., Hallie H., Roger B., and William C. Brooks; one daughter, Sandy Buckner and son-in-law Dr. Wordy Buckner of Springfield; one stepson, Charles Keith Magee, Jr. of Boca Raton, FL; two granddaughters, Laura Ayers Kosinski and husband Scott Kosinski of Seattle, WA and Mary Christine McConnell of Springfield, six step grandchildren, Cheryl Till of Arlington, TX, Dr. J.W. "Bucky" Buckner, of Springfield, Rod Buckner of Springfield, and Rosalyn Buckner of Kansas City, MO and Aaron and Jeffrey Magee of Boca Raton, FL; six great grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren. There will be a graveside service only in Bethany, MO at 1 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2009 in the Miriam Cemetery in Bethany where her husband is interred. The Reverend George Latimer will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to South Street Christian Church, Springfield MO, memorial fund.
