Dorothy Imogene "Jean" Dake, 98, of Springfield, MO, passed away peacefully December 3, 2020 at the Arbors Memory Care Facility.
Jean was born in Brownwood, MO, on January 11, 1922 to Lyman L. Pritchett and Elsie Mae Pritchett. She attended Brownwood Primary School and graduated from Puxico High School, Puxico, MO, in 1940. She then attended Draughon's Business College in Paducah, KY until 1944. She worked in the Collectors Office in Stoddard County until she married her late husband of 34 years, Ray W. Dake. After they were married, they moved to Springfield, MO, where they raised their sons, Larry and Michael.
Jean was very active in the community including PTA President at Pershing School, then PTA President of SPS, Art Group, Ladies Auxiliary at Cox, Twin Oaks Country Club, 9 Hole Women's Golf Association, Cherokee Lanes Housewifes League, Friends of the Library, Red Hat Society, and very active in support of local charities. She was also a member of National Avenue Christian Church.
She loved playing golf with friends at Twin Oaks, bowled in the Women's League of Springfield, was an avid reader, and an excellent bridge player and played in many bridge tournaments.
She enjoyed life and spending time with her grandchildren. A kid at heart, she played dress up, marched, played games and was on the floor with them whenever they were playing!! Known as Mom, Grandma, Gamma, Gigi, and Jean, she was loved by everyone around her.
Jean is survived her sons, Larry L. Dake (Jacqueline) and Michael D. Dake (Gann); step-son, Joseph Dake; step-daughter-in-law, Carrol Dake; eleven grandchildren; Wendy Dake Koelsch (Tom), Matthew Dake (Jimena), Larry C. Dake, Michael Dake (Felicia), Raymond Dake (Michelle), Joann Dake Moore (Mike) and family, Julie Dake Abel and family, Vicki Dake Mongar (Ken) and family, George Ray Dake (Judy) and family, Richie Dake (Kathy) and family, Bobby Dake (Brenda) and family; seven great-grandchildren, Ernesto Lopez, Isabella Dake, Parker Dake, Finn Dake, Axel Dake, Rose Dorothy Dake, and Oliver Dake; and several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ray W. Dake; three sisters, Lela Lawler, Ruby Ashcraft and Theda Smither; step-daughter, Shirley A. Dake; and step-son, Richard L. Dake (Dick).
Enjoy the little things in LIFE for someday you will realize they were the BIG things!!! LIFE is a gift, cherish it!!!
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in 2021.
The Family would like to thank the staff at Intrepid for their kindness and care, thank you to the staff and extended family at The Arbors for taking such good care of Jean these past few years, and an enormous thank you to "Jean Bean's" (her nickname at the Arbors), caregiver, Kathy Driskell, for all her extra love, care and compassion from the day Jean moved in!!
