March 8, 1925 – January 24, 2022
Dorothy Frances (Dieterich) Horine of Springfield, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2022, in her home after a brief illness. She was born in Monett, Mo on March 8, 1925, the daughter of Joe Dieterich and Louise (Diebold) Dieterich.
She married Warren Leon Horine on September 16, 1948 and was united in this marriage for over sixty-nine years.
After Warren took early retirement, they travelled extensively throughout the Unites States. Favorite destinations included the Southwest, the Rocky Mountains, cruises to Alaska and camping all over in their beloved travel trailer. Dorothy was a founding member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and volunteered in many ministries including St. Dorothy's Guild. She enjoyed entertaining people and always had a cake or pie in the oven. Dorothy loved being a wife and mother, gardening, canning, dogs and serving others. She had a passion for square dancing and taught ballet and tap dancing.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Warren, her sisters Beatrice, Josie Linebarger and Mary Rolleg. She is survived by her sister Joann Combes, daughters Christy Broekhoven (Richard), Kathy Daves (Don), Lora McDaniel (Chuck); sons Bruce Horine (Marcia) and Rob Horine (Jan); twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
A prayer service will be held at 5:30 PM, Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with visitation to follow from 6:00-8:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be at 10 AM, Friday, January 28, 2022 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will be at Missouri Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri.
The family would like to thank Compassus Hospice and special caregivers Cheryl, Mary, Linda, Shirley, Elsa, Rose, Suzanne and Bernie.
