Dorothy Goodwin, 82, Springfield, passed away at 1:50 a.m. Monday, August 30, 2010 in St. John's Hospital. She was born February 25, 1928 in Long Lane, Missouri to Raymond and Essie Burton Day. Her family moved to Springfield during her childhood and she was a 1946 graduate of Springfield Senior High. Dorothy married Julian R. "Jake" Goodwin December 31, 1947 in Rogers, Arkansas. Jake died July 7, 1996. Dorothy was an accomplished homemaker and dedicated wife and mother who possessed a strong work ethic and was always busy and productive. She was a member of South Street Christian Church. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edsel; a sister, Barbra, and a nephew, David. Dorothy is survived by a son and his wife, Mike and Susan Goodwin; a daughter, Julia Bennett; grandchildren, Ryan and Erin, all of Springfield; and sisters, Daunis, Peggy, Mary and Ramona. A Celebration of Dorothy's Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 2, 2010 in South Street Christian Church with the Reverend Janet Given officiating, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. The family will receive friends in the church immediately following the service. Private burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
