Dorothy Busiek passed away Friday, August 30, 2013 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born in Springfield and lived there her entire life. She graduated from Senior High in 1947 and earned a BA degree in Education from MSU in 1950. Dorothy and Erwin were married at Grace United Methodist Church in 1949. While her husband attended graduate school and later medical school at Vanderbilt in Nashville, Dorothy taught in the elementary public schools in Nashville. Later she was the organist in the naval base chapel while her husband served two years in the Naval Reserve at Astoria, Oregon. Dorothy was most proud of her four wonderful children. In addition to being a very busy homemaker she was an accomplished pianist. She loved to play many old time favorite songs and knew many by heart. She especially loved to play for her children. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, William Dee and Marie (McConnell) Garrison; her two younger brothers, W.E. and J.D. Garrison; and one son, David, who died shortly after birth. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Erwin Busiek; her sisters, Marjorie Harmon of Springfield and Susan Letterman and her husband Bob of Troy; her four children, Emily and her husband Greg Johns of Cape Town, South Africa, Alice and her husband Steve Parker of Nixa, Kurt and wife Mona of Parkersburg, WV, and Barbara and partner Patty Ward of Bentonville, AR; and eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Private graveside services will be held October 15, 2013 at Maple Park Cemetery under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. A remembrance gathering will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri, or the MS Society.
