Dorothy Lorene Askren, 85, peacefully passed away at home on Wednesday, September 9 while being loving cared for by her husband of 63 years and her daughter and sons. Our family was blessed with the compassionate care given by hospice nurse Susan Ivory R.N. and Dr. Albert Leonardo M.D. as well as countless prayers from friends and family. Dorothy's 20 years as a volunteer at Mercy Hospital and active membership of Immaculate Conception Parish demonstrated her love of people and the Lord. Dorothy is survived by her husband James R. Askren, seven sons, one daughter, 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Visitation to be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 11 starting at 5:00 pm ending with Rosary at 7:00 pm. Rite of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 12 10:00 am Immaculate Conception Parish. Private inurnment ceremony at Missouri Veterans Cemetery will be held on a future date.
