Obituary

Dorothy Lee Adkins Dorothy Lee Adkins passed away Tuesday evening, September 29, 2009. She was born in Springfield, Missouri, May 26, 1920. She was the daughter of Herbert and Leona Ream Adkins. Having graduated from Springfield Senior High School in 1939, she went on to graduate as a registered nurse from Springfield Baptist Hospital in 1942. During World War II, she worked as a nurse at O'Reily Army Hospital. She worked at major hospitals in Kansas City, St. Louis, Memphis, Tenn., and Springfield, Mo., before retiring from St. Johns Hospital in 1982. Dorothy was both a 4th cousin to Elvis Presley and Chet Atkins, and a 5th generation Greene Countian. She is survived by nephews, Gene Adkins and wife, Sara, Sam Adkins, Pete Adkins and wife, Jeni, James and Kenneth Adkins; nieces, Mary Fisher and her husband, John, Rachel Fisher and Ella Adkins; and cousins, David Ream and his wife, Sara and family, and Dean Ream and family. Dorothy loved music and St. Louis Cardinals baseball. Until age 89, she was a volunteer at Still Well Senior Center. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, October 5, 2009, in South Street Christian Church, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel.
