Obituary

Doris Ann Wyrsch was born in Higginsville, MO. on June 2, 1934, the daughter of Jack K. and Aileen Smith. She joined her Heavenly Father at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 following a long illness with Parkinson's disease. She was preceded in death by both parents and her oldest sister, Mrs. Marilou Robertson. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Dr. Leo M. Wyrsch of Springfield; four children, Cindy Hoovens, Dr. Bradley Wyrsch and wife Cindy of Springfield, Doug Wyrsch and wife Jody, Las Vegas, NV, and Karyn Brittman of Los Angeles, CA; a sister, Mrs. Jean Benson of Oklahoma City, OK; eight grandchildren, Chandler and Blaine Hoovens and Carter and Callie Wyrsch all of Springfield, Colin and Parker Wyrsch of Las Vegas, NV and Ever and Stella Brittman of Los Angeles, CA. She attended elementary and high school at Higginsville, MO and then attended Christian College and the University of Missouri, Columbia. After moving to Springfield in 1967, Doris was very active as a volunteer in the R-12 school system, Junior League, PTA and Greene County Medical Society Auxiliary. She was then employed as a library assistant for many years in several Springfield elementary and middle schools, retiring in 1993. Children were the love of her life and she especially relished the time spent helping them in school as well as being a model mother and grandmother. She was also a member of King's Way United Methodist Church and Hickory Hills Country Club. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with private burial at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, MO. Visitation will be at King's Way United Methodist Church from 9:30 to 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 3, 2013 immediately followed by funeral services at 11:00 AM at King's Way conducted by Yvi Martin. The casket will remain closed. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Junior League of Springfield, 2574 E. Bennett, Springfield, MO 65804, or King's Way United Methodist Church, 2401 S. Lone Pine, Springfield, MO 65804, or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163-4777. The family wishes to especially thank the staff from Oxford Health Care, HPC Hospice and Christy Hogan for their dedicated, professional and loving, personal care over the past few months.
