Doris Lee Reed, age 84, of Springfield, MO passed away Wednesday, June 28 due to complications from surgery. She was born February 6, 1933 near Mountain Grove, MO to Elbridge and Marie (Long) Carter. She lived most of her life in Mountain Grove until moving to Springfield in 2003 to be near family. Doris was married to Paul (Gene) Reed on November 25, 1948.

Doris was a very dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. The happiest day of her life was the birth of her first grandchild, and each additional grandchild and great-grandchild brought great joy to her life. She worked very hard to provide for her family and retired from dairy farming in 1985. She enjoyed sewing, fishing, and camping with friends, but most importantly, spending time with her family and cooking for them.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gene and daughter-in-law Monica Reed. She is survived by two sisters, Bee Shaw and Betty Watson, both of Mountain Grove, MO and two brothers, Jr. and Gene Carter, also of Mountain Grove, MO. Also surviving are four children, Debbie Reed-Boyer, Monett, MO, Bill and wife Sheila, Springfield, MO, Doug and wife Linda, Mountain Grove, MO and Eddie Joe, Springfield, MO; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Reed, Keaton Reed, Amos Reed, Melissa Reed, Dalton Boyer, Andress Flood and Miranda Wimberley; ten great-grandchildren, Carter Reed, Harrison Reed, Nathaniel Reed, Chase Reed, Isaac Reed, Macy Reed, Korianna Wimberley, Kamden Wimberley, Samuel Page and Matthew Reed. She was also very excited for her eleventh great-grandchild, Kennedy Jo Reed, due in July.

Doris was a member of Mountain Valley Baptist Church in Mountain Grove. Memorial donations can be made to the Mountain Valley Cemetery.

Doris will be missed by all of her Springfield friends, and friends and relatives in Mountain Grove. A special thank you to the nurses in Cox South NTICU for their excellent care for six days.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Sunday, July 2, 2017 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole, Springfield, MO. Church service will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Mountain Valley Church, Mountain Grove, MO. Burial will follow in Mountain Valley Cemetery.
