June 3, 1928 – February 13, 2021
Doris June Meyer, 92, went home to be with her Lord on February 13, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. She was born on June 3, 1928 to Augusta and William Sanderson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband's parents, her husband, Vernie G. Meyer, Sr., her son, Vernie G. Meyer, Jr. and her sister.
June lived a full life after being raised at the Presbyterian Children's Home in Farmington, Missouri, where her mother was employed as a cook. She attended School of the Ozarks, which is now College of the Ozarks, in high school and was chosen as Valedictorian of her class, which earned her a plaque on Lake Honor. There she met her lifelong sweetheart, Vernie Meyer. She was a charter member of Southminster Presbyterian Church until her death. She was also active in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and all sports that her sons were involved in. She served her church, volunteered over 43 years delivering meals for Meals on Wheels and was always willing to be a blessing to anyone. She was an active bowler until the age of 90 when it was her decision to quit. She also loved knitting and she did it beautifully Her many afghans are cherished by all her family.
June's life centered around her family and she is survived by her sons Stephen and wife Judy of Springfield and Jim and wife Denise of Springfield; four grandchildren, Melinda and husband Jeremy Cerra of Olathe, KS, James Meyer of Rogersville, Jeremy Meyer and wife Shield of Ozark and Aaron Meyer and Randi Haus-Clark of Springfield; 8 great grandchildren, Joshua, Lily, Ava and Jude Cerra of Olathe, KS, Chandler and Wyatt Meyer of Rogersville, David Meyer of Ozark and Lexi of Springfield.
Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, February 26, 2021 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Dan Kuert. There will be no visitation. Private burial will be held at National Cemetery. Any memorial gifts can be made to Meals on Wheels.
