Obituary

Donald Leonard Woodring, 81, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away at 12:27 AM Thursday, April 22, 2010 in Springfield. After working for Armor Packing Plant and Graybar Electric Company in Omaha, Nebraska, Donald relocated his family to Springfield in 1959. In 1970, he became Housekeeping Department Head for Cox Medical Centers until his retirement in 1993. Donald Woodring was born July 26, 1928 in Leonard, Missouri. He was united in marriage to the love of his life Marcella May on June 12, 1948. One of the many joys in Donald's life was celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary in 1998. Marcella passed away in July, 1998. Donald was also preceded in death by his parents, Frances and Jesse Earl Woodring and his brother, Johnny. He is survived by four sons; Donald G. and his wife JaNyece, Stephen and his wife Janice, Joe and his wife Dawn, John and his fiancee Sara Clopton; three daughters: Diane Cadle Woodring, Theresa and her husband Kenny England, and Lisa and her husband Tom Heffron: 28 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Donald proved time and time again that there was no sacrifice too great for his children or grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, April 28, 2010 in St. Agnes Cathedral with The Reverend Mike McDevitt and Msgr. Thomas Reidy, celebrants. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday, April 27, 2010 in the funeral home with a rosary starting at 7:00 PM.
