Obituary

Donald Richard Stewart, 79, of Springfield, passed away on March 21, 2015. He was born on October 6, 1935 in Dexter, Missouri. A Korean War Veteran, Don served in the Marine Corps from 1952-1957, receiving the Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and United States Service Medal. Don pursued degrees in Criminal Justice and Business Administration, graduating from Drury University (then College) in 1977. His career path took him from positions with the U.S. Government as a Federal Protection Office and later with the IRS. He was Assistant Manager at Battlefield Mall, head of Internal Security for Empire Gas, and owned several businesses in Springfield with the last being Round the Clock Kids Hourly Childcare and Kidsville/Babyville Childcare in conjunction with his wife, Karen. In retirement, Don substituted part time for the Logan Rogersville School District. Don enjoyed traveling, carpentry projects, working in the yard, reading and relating humorous tales. Family was the center of his life. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his former wife Marie Stewart, his in-laws Milton and Helen Deutsch, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jerry and Janice Deutsch Kling. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Karen; daughters, Gina Brees and Kimberly Gaitlin; granddaughter, Alex Miller; brother, John Mack Halley (Beth Cadieux); sister, Lydia Cole (Harold); brother-in-law, Bob Deutsch (Pam); nieces and nephews Erin Cole, John Cole, Robin Deutsch Smith, Brad Deutsch, Ashley Deutsch, Julie Kling Rowan, Mark Kling, Stephen Kling, and Susan Kling Gilmore. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, from 6-8 pm at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Foundation of the Ozarks-Care to Learn Rogersville, Southwest Missouri Humane Society, Hospice Compassus, or the charity of the donor's choice.
