Donald Mack Nelson, 84, Springfield, MO, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2015, at Mercy Hospital. He was born October 9, 1930 in Springfield, MO the son of Theodore and Lois Nelson. He attended Springfield schools and Southwest Missouri State University. He served his Country in the US Navy. Donald retired from Sweetheart Cup Co., Quality Control Dept. He was a Mason, member of University Heights Baptist Church, the Elks Lodge and Springfield Golf and Country Club. He loved to play golf and tennis and was an outstanding woodcarver. He enjoyed traveling, fishing and water sports. Donald was a loving husband for 63 years and adored his two children, Randal and Ken. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald "Bud" Nelson and a sister, Connie Lee. Donald is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Nelson; two sons and their wives, Ken and Cathy Nelson and Randy and Lynn Nelson; and two grandchildren, Jennifer and Nicholas Nelson. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
