Donald G. Kendall, 91, of Springfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife and daughter at 5:52 pm on May 23, 2024 at Glendale Gardens. Donald went to be with his Lord and Savior. Also, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he was always willing to serve others. A life well lived and a man well loved.
He was born March 14, 1933 to Royce and Mahala (McDowell) Kendall in Marion, IL. He was a 1951 graduate of Marion High School, Marion, IL. Donald served as a Corporal in the United States Army from 1952-1954. He married Ileen Ruth Upton on June 13, 1984. Donald retired as a Lieutenant Security Officer with the Federal Prison System in Marion, IL in 1985 and also as a Security Officer with Barnes Jewish and Children's Hospitals in 1996. He then retired to Springfield, MO.
Donald was a member of Restoration Church and Messiah Lutheran Church. He was also a lifetime member of VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Royce T. Kendall and Mahala J. (McDowell) Kendall; daughter, Kimberly Kendall and brothers Kenneth Kendall (Millie) and Ralph Kendall (Margie).
Donald is survived by his wife, Ileen Kendall of Springfield; daughter, Robyn Kendall Brummett (Henry) of Carbondale, IL; sons Donald G. Kendall, II of Marion, IL, Bradley Upton (Diane) of Colorado Springs, CO, Paul Upton of Alpha, MN and Mark Upton (Cathy) of Eureka, MO; grandchildren Brad Oxendine (Crystal), Chad Oxendine (Chelsea), Brenah Murray (Aaron), Haley Upton, Kathryn Upton, Molly Upton, Benjamin Upton and Aidan Upton; great grandchildren Gavin Oxendine, Grant Oxendine, Alana Biermann, Deacon Oxendine and Trai Murray; brother-in-law Rodney Pipkorn (Glenda), sister-in-law Beverly Cohen and many nieces, nephews and other close family and friends.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Messiah Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at 3:00 PM in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, Restoration Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
