Donald Plaster, Jr., age 71, of Springfield, MO passed away January 7, 2015 in Cox South Hospital. He was born February 1, 1943, the son of Donald and Frances (Adams) Plaster. Family was Don's first priority in life. He was very proud of his grandchildren; they were his favorite topic in conversation. He was known for his relentless teasing and ornery smile by those who loved him. A Springfield native Don was a proud Hillcrest High School Alumni. Planning with reunion committees and reminiscing with fellow football players brought him much enjoyment. Leadership came natural and his take-charge personality started early when he achieved Eagle Scout as a teenager. Don enlisted in the Marine Corp after high school and upon returning worked at Royal Typewriter, while attending SMSU. As an insurance adjuster for GAB, he briefly lived in Chillicothe, MO and then returned to Springfield, becoming a general contractor and remained so until his retirement. He and his wife, Judy Cromer Plaster were married in 1977 and recently celebrated 37 years of marriage. In addition to his wife Judy, he is survived by his two children from a previous marriage; son Jeffrey Plaster and wife Beth, granddaughters Kaira Plaster and Kirsten Whitehead, daughter, Sherri Fullerton and husband William, Ashland, MO, grandsons Aaron and Ben Sowards, all which his wife Judy shared a close love and bond. Additional family include brother Gerald Plaster and wife Sarah, sisters Mary Mason and Margaret Campanelli and husband Tom, Crawfordsville, IN, sister-in-law, Faylene Hall, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Don is preceded in death by his parents, and infant grandson Michael Sowards. Funeral services will be Friday, January 16, 2015 at 12:30 p.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will follow in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
