Don L. Akers , 89, Springfield, MO died on July 3, 2016.  He was born March 2, 1927 in Springfield, MO to Harold and Eula Akers.  Through his 4 years in high school at Senior High and college at Drury, he continued to live in Springfield until leaving to serve in the Army at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia where he taught at the Engineering school.  Don's career in marketing and sales lead him to work for Shell Oil, Royal McBee, Bell & Howell and later in commercial real estate.  In retirement, he worked with the Springfield Board of Realtors and Assessors, the Civil War Roundtable, the Rotary, the German Swiss Austrian Society, the Friends of the Garden and the Senior Committee for Public Schools.  He was a member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; sister, June; son, Scott; and grandson, Kenneth.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty; daughter, Carol Rauch (Lew); son, Mark (Paula); granddaughter, Stephanie Hesser (Tyler); and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 8, 2016 from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Drury College, First and Calvary Presbyterian Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
