Dennis "Denny" Lee Ballard, son of the late Gerald and Hannah Elizabeth Ballard, was born in Columbus, Ohio, on June 2, 1941.  Growing up, he was an altar boy in the Catholic Church and attended the public schools of Franklin County.  He then attended college at Ohio State University and played football for the legendary coach Woody Hayes.

He is survived by his wife, Karen of 23 years; his three sons, Brian and fiancee, Rachel, Kevin and wife, Natalie, and Digger Wells and wife, Danielle; two grandchildren, Juliette and Deluca; his sister, Joanna Macklin and sister-in-law, Marcia Ballard.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Bernard "Bernie" Ballard.

Denny's true love and passion in life was the jewelry industry.  Spending nearly 50 years on the road selling, helping clients with inventory control, and training sales staff.  He assisted in the design of many jewelry stores all across the country and sharing his immense knowledge of jewelry is what drove him each and every day.  A true "road warrior" in every sense.  While always in a sharp suit and "statement" tie, he'll forever be known as one of the best-dressed men of his time.

When Denny wasn't on the road, you could find him enjoying a good meal with family and friends, listening to jazz while having a glass of wine, and making sure the grass was cut to his perfection or watching his beloved football team, The Ohio State Buckeyes, O-H-I-O.

Denny passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, after a long-fought battle with cancer in which he was a warrior.  In his final days, he was surrounded by the Lord, his loving family, and his dearest friends.  His presence will live on through all the people he touched throughout his life.  May you rest in peace.  We will meet again, someday.  GO BUCKS!

On Wednesday, February 23, 2022, Memorial services will be at 11:00 am at Gorman Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole Street, Springfield, Missouri 65804. A celebration of life will follow at Denny's favorite local restaurant, The Metropolitan Grill, from 1:30-3:30 pm, 2931 E. Battlefield Road, Springfield, Missouri 65804.
