Debra "Debbie" Thompson, 68, was taken home to be with her Lord on February 19, 2026. Debbie passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving husband and close friends, following a short but courageous battle with brain cancer.

Debbie was born on May 1, 1957, in Springfield, Missouri, to Jack and Carol (Scroggins) McKenzie. She graduated from Glendale High School in 1975 and went on to attend Southwest Missouri State University. Debbie devoted 30 faithful years of service to City Utilities of Springfield before retiring in 2008.

In 1976, Debbie met the love of her life, Randy. They were united in marriage in October 1977 and shared 48 wonderful years together. Their marriage was a true partnership built on faith, laughter, and unwavering devotion. In 1986, they began their greatest adventure – raising their family. Debbie was a proud and devoted mother to her two sons, Blake and Tanner. She rarely missed a game, practice, or event, always cheering from the stands with pride and enthusiasm.

Family time was Debbie's greatest joy. Whether at the lake house, camping, vacationing, or hosting lively pool parties at home, she created a place where everyone felt welcome. Debbie had a special gift for gathering people together, making every occasion memorable. Her home was often filled with friends, family, and teammates, all enjoying her warm hospitality.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Debbie faithfully supported her favorite teams – the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Royals, and Kansas City Chiefs. Game days were an event, whether inside the house or under the veranda by the pool. Many Super Bowl and World Series celebrations were hosted by Debbie, complete with laughter, spirited cheering, and cherished company.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Carol McKenzie; her beloved son, Tanner Thompson; her brother, Terry McKenzie; and her foster parents, Ken and Nadine Nutt.

Debbie is survived by her devoted husband, Randy Thompson; her son, Blake Thompson and wife Mindy; brother, John McKenzie and wife Joanna; an extended family that included her brother, Rick Nutt and wife Cathy and a sister Connie Reed; many nieces and nephews and a host of dear friends whose lives she touched deeply.

Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, with Funeral Service following at 11:00 AM, on Friday, February 27, 2026 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
