Obituary

Debra Lynne Strait was born in Danville, KY on August 4, 1956. She passed away in her home in Republic in the early morning hours of February 25, 2019. Her family, nor Debbie, were aware of any existing medical issues and she had been actively pursuing a healthy lifestyle, diet, and exercise program. Her death was sudden and unexpected, but as peaceful as possible.

Debbie leaves behind her husband of 20 years, Lynn Strait. Along with her father, Douglas Hatfield, she has many immediate family members that survive her. She has a step-son, James Strait, who gave her two grandchildren J.R. and Joey. She has a step-daughter, Erin Strait, who also gave her two grandchildren, Elise and Julia. She has two sons of her own, Jonathan Frost and David Frost. Jonathan and his wife, Paula Frost, gave Debbie two grandchildren, Jonathan and Emily. David and his wife, Patty, gave her two more grandchildren, Nick and Kayla. She is also survived by her younger brother, Kerry Hatfield, who has two children, Kylea and her husband Matt, and Tony Hatfield. Her brother, Kevin's son, Brett Hatfield and his family, survive her as well. She will be intensely missed by countless other friends and family members.

Debbie was one of the warmest, friendliest, most likeable people you could know. She had a very outgoing personality, and always made you feel comfortable, welcome, needed, and important. She was the person you could call when you needed someone in your corner. She was our family nurse, botanist, therapist, relationship expert, guidance counselor, mediator, and friend. She loved spending time with family and friends, and they brought her so much joy and happiness. It is hard to imagine life without her.

As I know my mom, this situation would be exceptionally hard on her; knowing she was causing anyone pain or grief. I go on with that in mind. She would absolutely want everyone to remember the good times we shared with her, the laughter, and the memories. She would want us to relive those moments in our thoughts and create new memories with our loved ones still here. Immediate family members that preceded her in death were her brother, Kevin Hatfield, Kevin's son Chaz, and her mother, Margaret Ann (Annie) Hatfield. She would often recall memories of family and friends that had passed away, remembering old sayings, habits, and funny stories, and she would talk of each of them a lot. She would want us to do the same for her now as well. Keeping her with us always and keep the memories of her, and all other members of the family that have passed, alive. She will be with each of us daily as we continue through life, celebrating with us during our highs and consoling us during our lows.
