Dr. David Sampson Yates passed away Friday, July 25, 2014, at Christian Health and Rehabilitation of Springfield-East, after a long illness. David was born February 22, 1948, in Springfield to parents Hershal and Mary Frances Yates. He graduated from Greenwood Laboratory School in 1966, received a Bachelor's of Science Degree from Southwest Missouri State in 1971, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity, and graduated from U.M.K.C. Dental School in 1974. David served two years in the Army Meddac Unit as a Captain in Dentac at Fort Leonard Wood. He practiced dentistry in Springfield from 1976-1989 and then returned to Fort Leonard Wood as a civil servant dentist until his retirement in 2007. David was an outdoor enthusiast who shared his love of running, swimming, camping, hiking and canoeing with his family. David married Pamela Jane Meaders on November 27, 1971 in Kansas City. He is survived by his wife, children and their spouses: daughter, Kelly Schultz and husband, Dr. Loren Schultz; son, Colin and wife, Katy; and son, Adam and wife, Courtney; granddaughters, Megan Finney, Brianna, Mylisa, and Cheyenne Schultz; numerous Schultz foster grandchildren that touched our lives; and grandson, Nicolas Yates. David was predeceased by parents, Hershal and Mary Frances Yates; and grandparents, Hershal and Geraldine Yates and Herschel and Pearl Sampson. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2014 in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel, 1947 East Seminole, with Reverend Dr. Andrew Chaney of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
