IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David Vernon
Wagner
October 1, 1924 – November 18, 2017
David was born October 1, 1924 to Louis and Edna Wagner in Kirkwood, Missouri. He passed away peacefully at the age of 93 Saturday, November 18, 2017 with his son and daughter by his side. David was a World War II Veteran having served in the Marine Corps as a radio operator/tail gunner. He lived a life full of adventure. In 1953, he married Eleanor Meier. For their honeymoon, they drove the Alcan Highway to Alaska. There they stayed and reared their three children, Stan, Pam, and Janet for the next 22 years. A carpenter by trade, David was a craftsman. His specialty was finish carpentry. He also loved the outdoors. Alaska was meant for him. He staked out a gold mining claim on Canyon Creek, and for many happy years he spent summers panning for gold. He also loved fishing, hunting and organic gardening.
In 1975 David and Eleanor decided to head back to Missouri, this time settling in the Ozarks. For the next 30 years, he developed their property on Wagner Bottom Road. There he perfected his organic gardening skills while over the years raising rabbits, chickens, goats and a cow. During this time, David built Eleanor her dream home.
In 2012, a new move to a warmer climate was in store. They traveled south and set up home in Palmetto, Florida. David loved the warm climate and enjoyed riding his 3-wheel bicycle, sitting outside in his lawn chair reading, chatting with his neighbors as they walked by, boat rides with his family, watching the sunset, a good glass of wine, and enjoying the many get-togethers with his family. All those that knew him will miss his quiet demeanor, ready smile and spunky humor.
David is survived by his brother, Richard Wagner, children; Stanley Mark Wagner (Kay), Pamela Ann Bingham (Carl) and Janet Ella Olmstead (Ed); grandchildren, Ariel Sarmiento (Jose), Olin Bingham, Zoe Meade (Casey), Isaac Bingham and Eva Bingham; great-grandchildren, Christian Sarmiento, Kellan Sarmiento, Hailey Wagner, Sydney Wagner, William Meade and his doggie companion, Tina.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Edna Wagner, wife, Eleanor Wagner, sisters, Stella Anderson and Irma Schrader, brother Robert Wagner and grandson Kenneth Wagner.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Country Lakes Village ll Club House, 6102 US Hwy 41 North, Palmetto Florida at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 28th. All are welcome to attend.
David will be laid to rest with his wife Eleanor at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 South Southwood Road, Springfield Missouri on January 3rd at 10:00 am.
